On August 27 at 6 pm, the Kunstverein Tiergarten will once again open the Moabit art festival ortstermin 21 in front of the Galerie Nord on Turmstrasse 75. From August 27th to 29th, visitors are invited to explore current interdisciplinary art and culture based on the topic r e s e t.

94 venues and nearly 200 artists answered the Kunstverein Tiergarten’s call to inquire into their own and collective systems and to search for new or different solutions. The last year and a half of the pandemic have demonstrated how fragile our coexistence has become and how important it is to face ourselves and the reality that surrounds us.

This year’s theme r e s e t is intended as an impetus to react to economic differences, the increasing damage done to the environment, and the desolate state of our social dealings with one another. “Reset” is a procedure that reverts an electronic device to its factory settings. We’ve reached a point where it’s important to pause and recapitulate what the pandemic has done to artistic practice and to artists’ livelihoods. How can we take advantage of opportunities to reorient ourselves, develop new artistic formats, make new contacts, and find a new way of working together while shaking off the excess or leaving it behind altogether? Is a “reset” of this kind even possible?

This year, ortstermin 21 has adopted the theme r e s e t to once again integrate new fields of art. The festival brings the diversity and systemic relevance of art and culture back into focus and, with this year’s topic r e s e t, campaigns in multiple districts of Berlin to reinstate art’s political importance. To explore this topic, on August 28th and 29th, from 3 to 8 pm, artists and cultural workers open the doors to their workshops and studios. Project spaces, galleries, cafés, and bars present curated exhibitions and events and invite the public to workshops and concerts or call for active participation.

On August 20, one week before the festival’s opening, the festival hub will open in Galerie Nord. All participating artists and visitors are invited to take part in events, to meet and share their ideas, and to find additional information about the extensive program.

In 2021, for the first time, ortstermin 21 will cooperate with the art festivals 48h Neukölln and artspring in Pankow to support the festivals' position in Berlin's cultural landscape and to initiate new dialogues and networks. Neukölln and Pankow-based artists present performances on a mobile stage designed by the ON/OFF group. Over the course of the year, the stage will travel to different places and, until the next ortstermin, will encourage artists from Moabit, Neukölln, and Pankow to share ideas.

From the beginning of August, detailed information about the festival program will be available in printed form as well as online. The program and the website offer detailed information about all exhibitions and events such as tours, concerts, performances and much more. It also shows the multi-faceted character of Moabit and reveals it to all the senses during the three days of the festival.
