Antonia Breme - V (Virtus) Vernissage Ausstellung Freier Eintritt

In her sculptural work Antonia Breme deals with display elements in the
context of store window displays. She examines the artistic practice of
designing window displays as an alternative means of income and, in this
context, addresses the question of the so-called "money job“, that many
artists perform in addition to their artistic work. In this way, she reflects on
her own position in the tension between artistic autonomy and economic
necessity.
The exhibited sculptures and objects were originally designed for a window
display of the fashion label Weather Underground to present its biodegradable
rain capes. In the context of the exhibition V (Virtus), they obtain
independence and at the same time refer to their original function.
The installative setting makes Antonia Breme's artistic process visible as well
as her handling of different materials and surfaces. At the same time, the
work on display remains flexible and expandable and exists in this form only
for the duration of the exhibition.

In ihrer skulpturalen Arbeit setzt sich Antonia Breme mit Display-Elementen im Kontext der
Schaufenstergestaltung auseinander. Dabei beleuchtet sie die künstlerische Praxis der Gestaltung
von Window Displays als alternative Finanzierungsmöglichkeit und befasst sich in diesem
Zusammenhang mit der Frage des sogenannten „money job“, wie viele Künstler:innen ihn neben
ihrer eigentlichen Arbeit ausüben. Im Spannungsfeld zwischen künstlerischer Autonomie und
wirtschaftlicher Notwendigkeit reflektiert sie diesbezüglich ihre eigene Position.
Die ausgestellten Skulpturen und Objekte wurden ursprünglich für ein Window Display des
Modelabels Weather Underground entworfen, um dessen biodegradable rain capes zu präsentieren.
Im Kontext der Ausstellung V (Virtus) erlangen sie Eigenständigkeit und verweisen zugleich auf ihre Ursprungsfunktion.
Das installative Setting macht Antonia Bremes künstlerischen Prozess sowie ihren Umgang mit verschiedenen Materialien und Oberfächen sichtbar. Dabei bleibt die gezeigte Arbeit in ihrer Form stets fexibel und erweiterbar und ist nur für den Moment im Ausstellungsraum in sich abgeschlossen.
