EXPLANATION ERKLÄRUNG
The sole content of this display is a letter Strindberg wrote to Gauguin in 1895 in answer to his request for a preface for a catalogue for the Hôtel Drouot. Strindberg responded in the negative, but his letter was so extensive that it must have more than fulfilled Gauguin’s hopes. A kind of on-the-spot-psychoanalysis-cum-art-explanation. This letter has been enlarged and pasted around the walls of Haus 19 to make it public property in the most literal sense. Drinks & refreshments are on hand. CHRIS NEWMAN
Der einzige Inhalt dieser Präsentation ist ein Brief, den Strindberg 1895 an Gauguin schrieb als Antwort auf dessen Bitte um ein Vorwort für einen Katalog für das Auktionshaus Hôtel Drouot. Strindberg antwortete mit einem Nein, aber sein Brief war so weitreichend, dass er Gauguins Hoffnungen mehr als erfüllt haben muss. Eine Art “ Vor-Ort-Psychoanalyse-mit-Erklärung von Kunst”. Dieser Brief wurde vergrößert und an die Wände von Haus 19 gekleistert, um ihn im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes zum öffentlichen Eigentum zu machen. Getränke und Erfrischungen sind vorhanden.
